Warum sollte man sich dieses Zitat nicht zu eigen machen und mal etwas wagen, was auf den ersten Blick vielleicht nicht unbedingt modisch ist, gemessen an den Maßstäben der aktuellen Trends? Oder ist vielleicht gerade modisch, was nicht modisch ist?
Als ich das Kleid zum ersten Mal anprobiert habe, war ich hin- und hergerissen, ob das Dress nun „fashionable“ ist oder nicht … Aber warum soll alles immer gleich fashionable sein? Reicht es nicht, dass das Kleid auf seine Art und Weise anders ist und kommt es nicht darauf an, ob das Kleid zu der Person passt, die es trägt? Wer entscheidet überhaupt, was modisch ist und was nicht? Sollte nicht jeder für sich selbst entscheiden, was ihm gefällt oder seine Persönlichkeit unterstreicht? Das ist einer der Aspekte, den ich an New York liebe: Jeder lebt in seiner eigenen (Mode-)welt und schert sich nicht darum, was andere machen. Und das wird akzeptiert. Ich würde mir wünschen, dass die Menschen in Deutschland auch etwas offener neuen Ideen gegenüberstünden. Deshalb meine Empfehlung an euch: Tragt einfach, was euch gefällt! Macht euch nicht zu viele Gedanken darüber, was andere von euch denken, denn der einzige Mensch, der über euch, beziehungsweise über euren Style urteilen kann, seid ihr selbst. Das heißt nicht, dass ihr nicht die neusten It-Pieces tragen sollt, sondern dass ihr sie euch zu eigen machen und daraus Neues entstehen lassen könnt. Also dass ihr den aktuellen Trend mit eurem persönlichen Touch zu eurem eigenen Trend macht.

Why shouldn’t we take this quotation as literally? Why shouldn’t we try something that is perhaps not fashionable as measured at the current trends?
At the moment when I tried this dress on for the first time, I wasn’t sure if this garment is fashionable or not …
Then I asked myself why everything always has to be fashionable?! Isn’t it enough if the dress is special in it’s own manner and fits to the person who wears it? I wonder who decides what is fashionable and what is not? Don’t you think that everybody should decide what he or she likes on his or her own?
This is one of the aspects that I love about New York City: Everyone lives in his or her own (fashion-)world and doesn’t care about what the others think – and this is accepted. I would be happy if it would be everywhere like this. So please just wear whatever you want to and don’t brood to much over what others could think about it. Always remember that the only person that can judge you is YOURSELF!
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear the new it-piece. It just means that you should adopt it as your own so that something new comes into existence.
